Powering Waste Into Profit
Green Lagoon is a total solutions provider for monetizing the biogas that is released as a by-product of the palm oil milling industry. The biogas generated can be put to gainful uses, particularly as renewable energy either for internal consumption or for sale to the national grid under the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) program. Lately, GLT is also developing projects to upgrade the biogas to bio-methane, which can be injected into the gas pipeline or for industrial applications.
Green Lagoon is a total solutions provider for monetizing biogas that is released as a by-product of the palm oil milling industry. In detail, it provides the technical expertise and facilities to convert palm oil mill effluent(POME) into electicity.
With more than 10 years of experience, Green Lagoon’s solutions have enabled palm oil mills across Malaysia and Indonesia to lower their carbon footprint and generate additional income streams, tackling two pressing issues - 1) environmental and 2) profitability issues at the same time.
In terms of recent business activites, it has 24 on-going projects with a worth of RM131 million. It currently operates 7 power plants and is expected to operate 10 power plants by the end of 2022.
To date, it has completed over 39 projects valued at RM 133 million and has been profitable for over 10 years.
Current challenges faced by Palm Oil Mills:
Over 64 million m3 of environmentally harmful by-products are discharged by Malaysian Palm Oil Mills annually with only 20% utilization.
